postcardJess Gorell is a photographer and multi-media artist originally from Arlington, Massachusetts. Her photographs have appeared in several magazines and been exhibited on both the East and West Coasts as well as in private collections. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, she spent 6 years studying on Nantucket Island and a summer at the Maine Photographic Workshop before moving West in 2002. Her installation of that year, New York: A City and Its Spirit, ran in Boston and at the Tamarind Theatre in Los Angeles. It featured 35 photographs, video projections and a live band, enjoying an encore performance as TRANSPORTATION NYC on Nantucket in July 2004. In addition to her photography, Jess has written for print and stage and has made several short films including a music video set in Central Park.

Most recently Jess continues work at The Creative Media Institute and at The StudioSpace, a workspace and gallery in Silver City New Mexico that houses her creative activities and The Bakshi School of Animation and Cartooning. She is also working on two photojournalistic books and documentary film, EIGHT ARTISTS: ONE ISLAND.
